ABOUT US
The St. Lawrence Long Rifles was chartered by the NMLRA in 2002. We are a black powder shooting club dedicated to preserving the history, tradition, and craftsmanship of antique and replica muzzleloading firearms. We promote both education and enjoyment of the black powder shooting sport through friendly competition, camaraderie, and a shared appreciation for history.
Located in beautiful St. Lawrence County in Northern New York, our club is proud to be part of a region rich in outdoor heritage.
We offer black powder shooting events year-round. Visit the Events page to view our shooting events calendar.
The Northern New York Muzzle Loading Championships are held in July. The NNY Muzzle Loading Championship shoot schedule offers 50+ matches, including caplock and flintlock rifles and pistols, muskets, black powder cartridge rifles, bench guns, youth matches, ladies matches, and limited primitive matches.
SLLR also holds a Youth Shoot in the spring to encourage kids 18 and under the opportunity to experience the fun and challenge of muzzle load firearms in a safe, supervised and fun environment.
SLLR also hosts its Border Skirmish in the spring season. The participants use issued musket ammunition and participate in N-SSA style events with rifled muskets.
Our events wouldn’t be complete without a Black Powder Cartridge match in the summer.
Whether you’re a seasoned black powder enthusiast or new to the sport, the St. Lawrence Long Rifles offer a welcoming environment to learn, compete, and connect with others who share a passion for muzzleloading firearms.
We are proud to be associated with and call the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club our home. The range features approximately 140 feet of covered firing line, with shooting distances from 25 to 200 yards. We greatly appreciate the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club for the use of their excellent range and facilities.
